eNVIroNMENT of the Past
The Crow Indians lived in the Yellowstone river valley. They lived around modern day Montana and Wyoming. The Crow Indians had a huge respect for nature and all living things. They valued living things very highly and took much care of them. In the eighteenth century, they migrated west to the Rocky Mountains and became nomadic buffalo hunters. They had became nomadic buffalo hunters since they had moved into one of the best hunting grounds in North America; The Great Plains. Unlike some other tribes, their location allowed them to never be struggling with food since the buffalo were so plentiful in their land. Because of this, they were constantly in war with other tribes who also wanted their land. In 1868, the Crow tribe accepted an offer from the United States to live in a reservation in Montana, where they are living today.

Environment of the Present
The Crow Indians now live in a two million acre area of land in Montana. Their reservation contains three mountain ranges and two river basins. Most of their beliefs about the environment have stayed the same. They still take great care of the environment and value all living things very highly. Their reservation has shrunk greatly since the original treaty, which promised them 33 million acres. Now they are down to just two million acres. Their environment is very similar to what they had in the past.
